Varicose/Spider Vein Treatment

What Is Vein Therapy?

Vein therapy is a non-surgical treatment for varicose and spider veins.

What To Expect

Your veins will be accessed using ultrasound, and then treatment options will be discussed with you. Since individual treatment plans may vary, one or several of the following techniques may be tailored to meet individual needs.

Sclerotherapy

Very small superficial veins or spider veins are best treated using sclerotherapy. Sclerotherapy is the safest, simplest and most effective method to treat unwanted spider veins. In this procedure, a solution is injected into the spider vein with a fine needle, causing it to shrink. The fine networks of unsightly veins can diminish after only a few weeks and make legs look years younger, healthier and more attractive. More than one treatment may be required. This will be discussed with you at your initial appointment.

Endovenous Laser Therapy

Endovenous Laser Therapy, or EVLT, is revolutionizing the treatment of varicose veins. It is an advanced, non-surgical outpatient procedure that can treat varicose veins rapidly and with minimal discomfort. An IV line will be started and sedation medications will be administered. Under local anesthesia, a laser light heats and seals malfunctioning veins. Return to daily activity is immediate.

Ambulatory Phlebectomy

Ambulatory Phlebectomy is a method of removal of larger, thicker, surface varicose veins (the spongy, coiled veins just beneath the skin). An IV line will be started and sedation medications will be administered. Unlike traditional surgical techniques, micro-incisions are made to gently remove the undesired veins. The incisions are so small that stitches are generally not necessary, and there is virtually no scarring.

Patient Preparation

No special preparation is required for the initial consult, although it is recommended that you wear a two-piece outfit so that it is easy to undress below the waist. Additional instructions regarding specific procedures will be given at this time.
