PREP:  NPO AFTER MIDNIGHT

Take a scout on the patient: 14 X 17 USE LEAD MARKER

You do not have to show scout to Radiologist before exam unless there is a concern.

Set room up, same four cups as in barium swallow protocol.

Ask patient history questions:  previous surgeries, previous UGI’s, symptoms, etc.

Stand table upright

Overheads for Dr. Simms and Talley-AP 14X17, LPO 14X17, RPO 14X17.  All other doctors at their request.

For Dr. Sud: 1 ½  pack Fizzies. Mix Thick Barium according to instructions(60ml water)

For Dr. Gray: Do not stand table upright. Have paddle available. Have pt. drink fizzies, and all of the thick barium. Have them do a barrel roll 3 times, get the thin barium ready, then tell Dr. Gray that you are ready.

Peds: Thin barium only, not pre-mixed bottle

No scouts for babies per Dr. Gray

NPO 4 hours prior. Schedule in early a.m.
